Native Cigarettes Online in Ontario

Native cigarettes are made by First Nations manufacturers and sold by the carton. Here's how to order them online in Ontario, which brands to look for, and how delivery works.

6 min read•native-brandcigarettesbuying-guide

The short answer: adults 19 and over in Ontario can order native cigarettes online by the carton and have them delivered or shipped. White Birch Post carries a wide native range from our Capreol store, with same-day delivery in Greater Sudbury on orders placed before the daily cut-off and tracked Canada Post shipping to the rest of Ontario and Canada, except Nunavut.

This guide is about the practical side: which native brands are out there, how they're packaged, how ordering works in Ontario and what to expect when your order arrives. For a side-by-side comparison with national brands, see native vs brand-name cigarettes.

What are native cigarettes?

Native cigarettes are made by First Nations-owned manufacturers rather than by the large national tobacco companies. Most native brands sold in Ontario come from manufacturers in Ontario and Quebec. They're made from blended tobacco with a paper wrap and filter, sold in packs and cartons, and come in regular and king-size formats — the same formats as any brand-name cigarette.

The term "native cigarettes" is the one most buyers search for, and it's how we label the section: our Native Brand category holds the full range.

Which native cigarette brands can you order online?

Native brands come and go more quickly than national labels, and stock changes with supply. Brands we carry include:

Most brands come in more than one variety, and each product page lists exactly what's in stock today. If a brand you're looking for isn't listed, call the store and ask — native shelves turn over quickly.

Where do GRE brands fit?

Grand River Enterprises is a First Nations manufacturer on the Six Nations of the Grand River, so its brands are native cigarettes too. Because GRE is so widely recognised, we list its brands — Putters, Sago, Podium and others — in a separate GRE section. Our guide to GRE cigarettes has the background.

How are native cigarettes packaged?

You'll see native cigarettes sold three ways:

  • Cartons of packs. The standard format: a carton box holding individual packs.
  • King size and regular. Many brands offer both lengths, listed as separate options on the product page.
  • Bagged. Some native cigarettes are sold loose in a resealable bag with no individual packs. See bagged cigarettes explained and our Bagged Cigarettes section.

Why do people order native cigarettes online?

Price per carton

For most buyers the main reason is cost: native cartons usually cost much less than national brands. Every product page lists the current carton price; we don't quote prices in guides because they move with taxes and supply. For how tobacco taxes are structured, see our guide to Canadian tobacco tax by province.

Selection

Native brands are often hard to find in town. Few corner stores in Northern Ontario carry more than one or two, and stock can be patchy. Ordering online lets you see the whole range and the exact varieties in stock before you buy.

Fewer trips

If the nearest shop that carries your brand is a long drive away, having cartons delivered saves the trip. Many customers order several cartons at a time so they're not reordering every week.

How old do you have to be to buy native cigarettes in Ontario?

The minimum age to buy any tobacco in Ontario is 19, and that applies to native cigarettes exactly as it does to brand-name ones. Ontario law also prohibits selling or supplying tobacco to anyone under 19, so ordering for someone underage isn't allowed either. White Birch Post sells only to adults 19 and over. For other provinces and how ID checks work, see tobacco age verification in Canada.

How do you order native cigarettes online?

  1. Confirm you're 19 or older when you arrive on the site.
  2. Open the Native Brand section and choose a brand.
  3. Pick the variety and size from the options on the product page and add cartons to your cart.
  4. Enter your address by choosing it from the suggestions as you type, or use the "PO Box / rural route" option for a box or rural address.
  5. Pay by credit card. Online orders accept all major credit cards.

How fast is native cigarette delivery in Ontario?

Greater Sudbury

Orders to Greater Sudbury addresses can be delivered the same day when placed before the daily cut-off, which is shown on our homepage and at checkout. Our own driver checks government-issued photo ID at the door for every order. See tobacco delivery in Greater Sudbury for the communities covered.

The rest of Ontario

Orders elsewhere in Ontario — from Ottawa and Toronto to Barrie and Windsor — ship from Capreol by Canada Post Xpresspost, discreetly packaged. Transit time depends on distance, so we don't promise delivery dates; your tracking shows each step. Our Ontario delivery page has more.

Outside Ontario

We ship native cigarettes to every other province and to Yukon and the Northwest Territories. We don't ship to Nunavut. See shipping tobacco across Canada.

Are native cigarettes different from brand-name cigarettes?

They're made the same basic way, from blended tobacco in a paper wrap with a filter, and blends differ from brand to brand in both groups. Preference is personal, and plenty of customers switch between native and brand-name. What doesn't change is the risk: no cigarette is less harmful than another, whoever makes it and whatever it costs.

What if my order goes missing?

Tobacco is final sale, but if a package goes missing in transit, contact us and we'll reship it. Tracking is available on request through our contact page, and more answers are in our FAQ.

Which Ontario cities do you ship native cigarettes to?

Every Ontario address Canada Post delivers to, from the Golden Horseshoe to the far north. We have local information pages for many Ontario cities, including Hamilton, London, Kitchener, Mississauga, Brampton, Oshawa, St. Catharines, Markham and Vaughan. Small towns, rural routes and PO boxes are covered too — if you have a box or a rural address, use the "PO Box / rural route" option at checkout to enter it by hand.

Should I order one carton or several?

That's up to you, but there are a few practical points worth knowing:

  • Shipping is a flat rate based on your order total, so combining cartons into one order usually makes more sense than several small orders. The rate table is on our delivery area page.
  • Native stock changes. If you've settled on a brand and variety, having a few cartons on hand means you're not caught out if it's briefly unavailable.
  • Storage matters. Sealed cartons keep for months somewhere cool and dry. See how to store tobacco.

Can I visit the store in person?

Yes. Our store is at 359 Taighwenini Trail Rd in Capreol, open Monday to Sunday, 10am to 9pm, and closed only on Christmas Day. In-store purchases are cash only, with an ATM on site.

The bottom line

Ordering native cigarettes online in Ontario is simple if you're 19 or over: choose a brand, pick your variety, and get same-day delivery in Greater Sudbury or tracked shipping anywhere else in the province. See the full range in Native Brand, or compare with GRE and Bagged Cigarettes.

White Birch Post sells to adults 19 and over only. Smoking is harmful to your health. If you're thinking about cutting back or quitting, our responsible use page lists free Canadian support services.
